Saturday, February 4, 2023 –Mama Ngina Kenyatta, mother to former President Uhuru Kenyatta, has asked the State to charge and convict her if she has taxe arrears with the government.
The first lady who was speaking at St. Teresa Catholic Church in Mpeketoni Lamu on Saturday February 4, wondered why the government was busy talking about people who have not paid the required taxes instead of acting against them.
She added that, good practice and leadership requires Kenya Revenue Authority KRA to act on those believed not to have remitted the taxman’s share instead of taking the debate to the political arena.
“Stop spoiling the name of my family. Paying taxes is an obligation of all Kenyans. Those who don’t pay are taken to court by agencies responsible. Going to public rallies to yell is unhelpful. Don’t try to make it look as of you’re working and yet you are not,” Mama Ngina responded.
She also took issue with the current William Ruto’s administration which she blamed for deviating the country from important issues that need to be addressed like hunger, health and fe and education.
“The government has policies in place. If I’m found to have breached the law…even for a year, I will pay the said taxes,” she added.
The debate about the former first family having failed to pay ‘Caesar what belongs to Caesar’ started last week and gathered momentum this week.
It came out clear that the Kenyatta family would be the next target in the push by President Ruto to ensure every Kenyan, regardless of his status, pays taxes.
This triggered his former boss Uhuru Kenyatta to react by laughing off the claims which he described as time wasting.
