Friday, May 12, 2023 –Embattled former Tv news reader Jacque Maribe has dragged Mike Mbuvi Sonko’s name into the Monica Kimani’s murder case.

On Thursday May 11 at the Milimani Law Courts, during Kimani’s murder trial, she said she happened to bump into Mr. Sonko at Ctizen Tv compound where the politician was to have an interview with Jeff Koinange.

Ms Maribe said, before leaving RMS premises, she ran into the former governor flanked by his handlers, who was to have an interview with Jeff.

Sonko would ask her to wait, and at his request, she stayed behind at the station until 10PM then, together, went to Q-Lounge.

“We were watching his live interview on my phone until it went off,” she told the court. She also mentioned others like June Ndegwa, Chelangat Ruto and Anita Gumbi, who had accompanied Sonko to the studio and asked her to join them for a girl’s night.

After communicating with Jowie through her colleague’s phone, she asked them to join them at Club Forty-Forty, where they went and were also joined by Sonko, later on.

“We arrived at Club 40-40 at midnight, and the first accused joined us and sat at another table. My apologies, your honour; I forgot to mention that we made a stop at Road House to switch vehicles. We were using Chelagat Ruto’s car but she wanted to leave it at the Road House, and we went and switched for Juju’s car (June),” she recounted.

Jacque also told the court that she did not know the late Monica in her lifetime, and she also did not talk to Jowie about Monica in their romantic relationship.

Making her submission in court, the media personality further said she learnt of Monica’s death while reading 9PM bulletin on Citizen Tv.

“That was the first time I heard of her and saw her picture. I never met her, nor did I have any discussion with Jowie regarding Monica,” the video shown during her testimony session indicated.

On the fateful night, her then boyfriend, Jowie, gave her a ride to Royal Media Services RMS, where she spent her time reading news until 9.30PM when she moved to Q lounge.

She recalled watching an interview on JKL until her phone ran out of charge. Jowie would then reach her through her colleague Monicah Kiragu on the same night at around 11.30 PM.

Jacque and Jowie are facing murder charges of a young business lady, Monica Kimani whose lifeless body was discovered in her bathroom. Her throat had been slit open.
