Monday, October 23, 2023 –Azimio la Umoja members from Central Kenya have clarified their stand in Azimio coalition amid rumours of fallout.
Responding to claims that they were on their way out of the Raila Odinga-led outfit, Martha Karua and Jeremiah Kioni have today, Monday October 23, stated that nothing could be further from the truth.
Speaking in their launch of Kamwene leadership Forum today, Karua and Kioni said they were going nowhere and that their stay in Azimio is indefinite.
“Right now, we are not talking about the race but about the unity of Mt Kenya people. Kalonzo Musyoka is our brother. We are in Azimio to stay but we still have Kamwene Caucus to champion Mt Kenya issues,” Ms Karua – Narc Kenya Party Leader – noted in a statement on Monday.
Ms Karua who was Raila’s running mate in the last year’s race has been around Odinga since losing election until recently when claims of breakup surfaced.
They are reported to be in the process of forming a different political umbrella meant to drive their Mt. Kenya political agenda at both the local and national level.
A few weeks ago, Azimio spokesman Makau Mutua was involved in a bitter exchange with Karua whom he accused of turning back to the tribal cocoon christened Kamwene.
Karua would immediately tell him off saying Kenya is a democracy that allows anyone to champion his or her political ambitions.
She clarified that she was still in Azimio despite plans to have Kamwene outfit.
