Wednesday, September 7, 2022 –Chief Justice Martha Koome has defended her decision to uphold the election of William Ruto as the next president of the Republic of Kenya.
Addressing mourners in Mwiteria, Imenti North Meru, the CJ who recently made public the election of William Ruto following the petition filed by Raila Odinga and Martha Karua, noted that what they had reached at in the ruling was the work of God.
“This is not because of my power, but this is because of the faithful God that I serve,” Koome said.
She said her team cannot regret the action taken in the ruling because that was what the world expected.
She added that several other leaders in the world and, in particular, Africa were now emulating their good work.
“We are being respected now not only in the region but even in the whole world. They are looking upon Kenya for leadership and also for independent institutions, especially the institution of Judiciary,” she stated.
Koome seized the opportunity to urge the country to accept William Ruto because that is what the majority wanted.
She was speaking this while accompanied by other Judiciary officers who called upon leaders to respect the independence of that arm of government.
