Martha Koome Speaks After her Nomination for CJ job

Wednesday, April 28, 2021 -Justice Martha Koome has thanked the Judicial Service Commission JSC terming their faith in her as a honour and which she will take serious as she plans to take over the leadership of the Judiciary.

Speaking today Wednesday after President Uhuru Kenyatta forwarded her name to the National Assembly for approval, Koome noted that her work will talk for itself.

“I appreciate this was after a thorough, rigorous and a very competitive process that saw some of the best legal minds come forward as capable candidates demonstrating their willingness to serve Kenyans,” Koome stated.

She also thanked all those who supported her course to become the next Judiciary president saying she feels so encouraged.

“As I continue to prepare for the next stage, I wish to convey my profound gratitude to all well-wishers who encouraged and prayed for me. I continue to thank God and seek your prayers as I go through the confirmation process,” she added.

She went on to assure every Kenyan that she will be ready to discharge her duty without favour to anyone including the executive.

Should she be sworn in, Koome will break the history of becoming the first female Chief Justice in the country.

The 61 year old mother beat other nine contestants for the top seat who included, Justice Said Cheitembwe, Prof. Patricia Mbote, Justice Marete Njagi, lawyer Philip Murgor, Lawyer Fredrick Ngatia, Justice Matthews Nduma, Justice William Ouko, Prof. Moni Wekesa and lawyer Alice Yano.
