Friday, September 20, 2024 –Convicted Acting Police boss Gilbert Masengeli has officially apologised to the court.
Taking to the dock today Friday September 20, Masengeli noted with concerns that he was sorry for what had transpired between him and the justice system saying he now regrets.
“Thank you my lord for this opportunity accorded to me.
“I would like to apologise to the lordship and the judiciary for the events that have transpired leading to the orders from this court.
“My lord, I respect you and all officers for the good work you are doing to uphold the rule of law,” stated Mr. Masengeli.
He also added that his main job description in the Police Service was to uphold the law and make sure it is reinforced to its letter and spirit.
“As a senior police officer, its my duty to enforce court orders and ensure they are obeyed fully.
“I pray my lord that this court accepts my apology and vacates the conviction facing me,” he stated.
During the session that ran from the morning to the evening, lawyers for the Law Society of Kenya led by Nelson Havi called out the police officer for disrespecting the court.
At some point, Havi and IG Masengeli’s lawyers led by Attorney General Dorcas Oduor, clashed in camera hence creating a period of tension and anxiety.
This saw Havi, prolong his onslaught to the lawyers attached to Masengeli whom he claimed were coaching Masengeli on what to say in court.
