Matatu accident claims four lives in Kilifi

Four persons have been reported dead in a grisly road accident involving a matatu along busy Mombasa-Malindi road.

The Star reported that the Mombasa-bound matatu on Monday December 7th rolled severally landing into a sisal plantation at Timboni area, Kilifi County.

Speaking on the incidfent, Kilifi South Deputy Sub-county police commander Paul Otieno explained how they had not clearly established how the accident occurred since the car had not collided with any other.

He pointed at drunk driving and slumbering on the part of the driver what also they had not authoritatively established.

“We are calling upon drivers to use recommended speed during this festive season. Let them be sober so that we can avoid losing passengers lives,” Otieno spoke to the Star on phone.

Passengers and drivers have since been cautioned from violating road safety regulations especially this festive season.

“If that Matatu had more passengers, maybe the fatalities would have been more. We are calling both drivers and passengers to follow the law,” he said.

National Transport and Safety Authoruty NTSA reports showed that in the month of December there are increased cases of road accidents due to massive relocation of city dwellers to their rural.
