Friday, September 3, 2021 -Deputy President William Ruto is accused of misusing security personnel assigned to him and his office by reassigning them more duties.

In a closed door meeting last Wednesday, Interior Cabinet secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i told members of parliament that they had to reorganize security of the DP because of the Intel they had gathered on what he does behind the curtains.

Ruto was accused by Matiang’i of donating some of his officers to Members of Parliament who have questionable track record. For example, Ruto allegedly donated two security personnel to a Coastal MP currently facing murder charges. He also donated some to a Rift valley MP whose security was withdrawn for hate speech.

Matiang’i further told the National Assembly Committee on Security that Ruto has been misusing the large security team assigned to him for his own benefits.

“You cannot get officers and tell them to go and commit a crime or to accompany the leaders as they commit the crimes,” Matiang’i told the MPs.

Government withdrew a total of 77 GSU officers from DP’s residences and replaced them with only 26 AP from the Government Building Unit GBU.

Matiang’i would then defend the move saying until now, Ruto just like the president, has the highest number of police manning him.

“Contrary to the allegations made and in view of the tabled evidence, H.E. the Deputy President is the most guarded in the history of the country in comparison with previous equivalent office holders,” Matiang’i stated.

He asked Ruto and his allies to stop blackmailing his department by painting a wrong picture of a man under attack just to seek political sympathy.
