Wednesday, August 14, 2024 –Newly-appointed Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has today met with International Monetary Fund IMF officials.
The officials paid him a courtesy call at the Treasury chambers, on Wednesday August 14, where the two parties discussed on how to stabilise the falling economy.
“The IMF Representative in Kenya, Mr. Selim Cakir, paid a courtesy call to Treasury CS John Mbadi this morning. The IMF continues to play a crucial role in supporting Kenya’s economic stability and development.,” read the statement seen by Kenyawide.com.
Mr. Mbadi who was sworn into office days ago, was handed the instruments of power at the Treasury headquarters Nairobi on Monday August 12 with his predecessor Njuguna Ndung’u exiting the stage.
Ndung’u listed a number of factors that have been bedeviling the ailing economy and among these was siphoning of taxes to ghost schools around the country.
He warned also that the culture of white elephant projects initiated by government, both the county and national, if not stopped, the economy will continue to struggle for long.
Mbadi taking over from Prof. Ndung’u at the time the government is mulling over how to work around to fill the gap left by the rejected Finance Bill 2024.
Mbadi recently told the media that he is thinking of bringing about some key sections of the rejected Finance Bill so that to help fund government operations and services.
