Tuesday, October 19, 2022 –The country continued to question how Roads, Transport and Public Works Cabinet Secretary Nominee, Kipchumba Murkomen, amassed his wealth the shortest time he has been in politics.

First to poke holes into his riches was Kakamega County Deputy Governor Ayuba Savula who reacted over Murkoems sh 550 Million declaration saying politics can be an amazing career in Kenya where getting riches is a guarantee.

“There is money in politics. Kipchumba Murkomen, the CS nominee joined politics 10 yrs ago a poor man doing TV analysis & moonlighting at Moi University. Today, he is worth sh 550 million. Academia is just a waste of time. Watch Salasya,” he commented.

This is after the ex-senator for Elgeyo Marakwet told Parliamentary vetting panel dubbed the National Assembly Committee on appointments, that he has properties and bank accounts that total to the tune of sh 550 million

Quickly, political analyst Prof. Herman Manyora would join the debate wondering how Murkomen, within a few years he has been in active politics, ended up acquiring several parcels of land across the country.

“The more relevant question to Murkomen would be on how he got those many parcels of land,” Manyora posed.

During his grilling today Wednesday October 19, Mr. Murkomen declared his net worth at sh 550 million by stating that his wealth was distributed in three parcels of land in Trans Nzoia County, one in Narok and another one in Kajiado County.

The CS nominee, without saying their exact location, also declared possessing two multimillion homes in Nairobi City.

“I am worth an estimated figure of Ksh550 million, made up of properties, parcels of land, vehicles, and a wheelbarrow.

“I don’t own a motorbike. My sources of income are from my law practice, my senate salary and farming,” Murkomen stated.

He also linked part of his breakthrough and early success to Raila Odinga who nominated him to sit in the task force on the devolved government shortly after the promulgation of the 2010 Constitution. This committee also comprised Musalia Mudavadi.
