Wednesday, August 9, 2023 –Firebrand Lawyer Miguna Miguna has told off Inspector General of Police IG Japhet Koome who had claimed that police did not participate in any form of brutality during the recent opposition anti-government demos.
Lawyer Miguna Miguna, while responding to the police boss on Wednesday August 9, stated that it was quite unfortunate for the police general inspector to make such remarks on a critical and sensitive matter that borders of lives of Kenyans.
In his statement, Dr. Miguna said the police were captured shooting at innocent Kenyans and that everyone saw this.
He added that a move by the police department to deny participating in the recent killings and injuring of anti-State picketers is a recipe for anarchy.
“This is unfortunate for the IG of police to say. Yes, Kenyans were killed by police. We all saw it live. To deny that Kenyans were killed by police is to invite anarchy and George Orwell’s 1984! We must never allow that!” he remarked.
Miguna’s statement coming against the backdrop of an official statement from the IG who linked the deaths to Azimio camp.
On Tuesday August 8, IG Koome accused the Raila Odinga-led camp of hiring dead bodies in various mortuaries so that to report to the media that the deaths had been caused by the police.
“It is unfortunate that some senior members of the society go to the mortuary hiring dead bodies, calling the media and telling them that these individuals were killed by the police. How low can some of our leaders sink?” he posed in his Tuesday evening statement.
However, Odinga, in his immediate response, wondered why the IG could make such a reckless statement when those bodies have bullet wounds and medical evidence to prove they were shot at with live bullets.
