Thursday, June 8, 2023 –Two key Members of National Assembly MPs were, on Thursday June 8, suspended after breaking the House rules.
The Thursday move saw Speaker Moses Maiska Wetang’ula throw out the two female lawmakers who had grossly violated terms of engagements (standing orders) during the active session.
Speaker Wetang’ula found the two legislators guilty following their unwarranted insults at each other; what forced the House to have a 15-minute adjournment
On return, the speaker notified the two to vacate the House for a period of two weeks. The two who were removed are Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo(ODM Party) and nominated MP Sabina Chege(Jubilee Party).
Others who were also asked to leave were Rozaah Buyu (2 weeks), TJ Kajwang (2 weeks), Fatuma Mnyanzi (5 Days), Catherine Omanyo (5 days), Joyce Kamene (2 sittings).
According to the report on our desk, the victims were among Azimio la Umoja MPs who protested Wetang’ula’s ruling on the position of Deputy Minority Whip.
Wetang’ula, however, maintained that Member of Parliament Sabina Chege would continue serving in that capacity until when the cases she filed were heard and determined, fully.
This is what saw a section of the opposition MPs turn angry at the Speaker over his ruling before turning at each other with insults.
Sabina Chege, who recently joined forces with the ruling coalition, was declared by Azimio as unfit to hold their house position.
Some times last week, Wetang’ula had refused to denounce Chege saying Azimio have to first forward her replacement; this quickly saw Azimio front Embakasi West MP Mark Mwenje before Sabina protested.
Interestingly, Wetang’ula is yet to accept Mwenje.
