Ministry finally announces date when all learners must be in class

All learners have been asked to report back to school on Monday October 26. Ministry of Education has announced.

A 10 member committee which was created by Prof George Magoha to deliberate on the matter of reopening learning facilities has advised the ministry to reopen schools on the day.

The recommendations seen by Homenews.co.ke shows that the task force had decided that pre-primary one and two, Grades one to three and classes five to seven should be back to school on Monday 26 same to Form 1 to 3.

The learners will then attend to lessons from that date to November 2nd when new education directives will be announced by the ministry after studying the behavior of Covid-19 curve and safety of all learners.

“With the new proposals, the education system in Kenya will normalise by end of December 2021,” KNUT Secretary General Wilson Sossion explained to media.

The ten member team chaired by Kenya Institute for Curriculum Development KICD Chairperson Sarah Ruto was the same one that triggered the topic that saw teachers report back to their respective work stations last week.

This was followed by an announcement that Grade 4 and class 8 alongside Form four students should be at school by Monday 12th to start their second term and which will take 11 weeks when schools will again close down on December 23rd.

Further, those to sit for examinations and Grade four learners will have a very short rest before resuming classes on January 4^th, 2021. The recommendation have outlined.

In the new school calendar, Cabinet Secretary Prof. Magoha also revealed that KCPE examinations will commence on March 22, 2021.

“KCPE examinations to start on March 22, 2021 and end on March 24, 2021. KCSE exams are scheduled to start on March 25, 2021 and end on April 16, 2021,” read an excerpt of his statement.

Reports from the teachers’ employer TSC confirmed that a total of 337,432 tutors had already reported to their stations as required by the ministry for early planning.

Teachers were tasked to fumigate classes and offices as well as rearranging sitting positions for their learners in accordance with Covid-19 protocol and guidelines.
