Ministry of Health issues a statement on lemon, honey and ginger as prices skyrocket

Ginger, Honey and lemon are not a cure for Covid-19 virus. Ministry of Health has made the clarification after a viral post surfaced online encouraging members of the public to consume the fruits in plenty to be able to protect themselves from the virus.

Around the country, prices of lemon and ginger have been doubled after rumours spread around that the three fruits can treat Coronavirus patients.

Though the fruits have a lot of importance in booting the body’s immune system due to their vitamin C, Acting Director General Health Dr. Patrick Amoth finally issued a statement on Friday August 7th saying these three items are no cure for the virus and consuming them in plenty would only help body’s immune but not stop anyone from contracting the virus.

“Ginger, lemon and honey are good because they are sources of vitamins and micro nutrients, but the message to take home today is that there is still no cure for COVID-19,” said Dr. Amoth.

“I will not stop you from taking your ginger honey or lemon as many times as you want but for sure it’s not a treatment for COVID-19.” He added.

It will be interesting to see how his statement will help reduce prices of lemon on the market after traders had doubled their prices following an increase in demand that has made the fruits scarce of Kenya’s market.

Coronavirus cases have increased in the country with the government grappling with containing further spread.

Nairobi County followed by Machakos and Kiambu counties are the leading in cases of Coronavirus in the country.

Africa continent alone has recorded a staggering 6 million infections.
