Saturday, July 22, 2023 -Jubilee Party Nominated Member of Parliament MP Sabina Chege was to deputise Johnson Sakaja in Nairobi. Details now emerge.
Speaking on Friday July 21, the Jubilee Party leader hopeful recounted instances the Kenya Kwanza leaders approached her out of Azimio la Umoja so that she could become Sakaja’s running mate but she could not take the position thinking Ruto was a losing candidate.
Ms Chege now says she regrets not grabbing that life-changing offer that could have made her not only wealthy but also bigger in city politics.
“Could I have taken that opportunity, today I would be very big in politics with a lot of money. So it pains me when I hear people say that I was bribed by Ruto to undermine ex-president Uhuru Kenyatta,” she reminisced.
The outspoken politician also added that it is wrong for some sections to claim that Uhuru made them; she instead said it is the other way round because Uhuru had money but still unpopular and unprepared to lead the country.
It was through their concerted support for ten years that the former head of State managed to become president of the country.
“We stood with Uhuru, campaigned and voted for him 10 years as not only president but also Mt. Kenya kingpin.
“In that process, we ended up voting for him three times after, in 2017, the Supreme Court nullified his victory,” MP Chege stated also reminding herself how she sacrificed for Azimio at the expense of her seat in Murang’a County which she lost.
Despite that, she has urged President William Ruto and his deputy to keep political wars away from families amid raging attacks from Kenya Kwanza politicians who have not had kind words for the Kenyatta family.
This is in line with the Kikuyu Council of Elders who have cautioned MPs allied to the ruling party against public altercation with the founding family.
