MP Gachagua linked to complicated web on money laundering

Directorate of Criminal Investigation DCI has established a complicated web on money laundering activities involving Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua.

Gachagua who is a top Deputy President ally, allegedly used a total of 22 briefcase firms to loot a whopping sh 12 billion through questionable tenders from both county and national government.

According to a report which has reached Homenews.co.ke news desk, MP Rigathi who once served in President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government as his Personal Assistant PA before he became an Member of Parliament, used his high end connections to secure multi-million tenders through what can be described as ‘dubious’ means.

He used the network to conduct business with counties Kwale, Bungoma, Nyeri and Kisii which he supplied with incinerators, medical equipment, Dialysis medical equipment and ambulances respectively.

MP Rigathi who rose from just being District Commissioner DC is also said to have shared part of the loot with a section of Deputy President William Ruto allies among them, sacked CS Mwangi Kiunjuru, Meru Senator Mithika Linturi, Ruguru MCA Karanja Muriuki and Laikipia Senator Kinyua Nderitu.

Through his vast networks, Gachagua who claims to have been in business for so long after ditching civil service also received multi-million tenders with the Ministry of Lands, State Department for Planning, Ministry of Health, Mathira Constituency CDF and the National Irrigation Board NIB.

The DCI established further that some of those tenders were acquired through shortcuts under the sanction of a top government official who has been kept anonymous.

Following the revelations, his accounts containing sh 200 million have already been frozen by High Court of Kenya what he has since protested saying he was being sacrificed for flimsy reasons of being a DP William Ruto ally.

“It is a scheme meant to harass and intimidate me over my political stand,” said Gachagua while addressing the media recently.

Efforts by Assets Recovery Agency ARA to trace some sh 5 billion in his other bank accounts is yet to bear fruits.
