Nyeri town legislator Ngunjiri Wambugu has claimed that Deputy President William Ruto wanted to apply intimidation and blackmail methods to push for BBI dialogue.
MP Wambugu who was reacting to a statement the Deputy President made over halting of his public gathering until further notice said Ruto wanted to weaponize the Mt. Kenya rallies to scare the Head of State into submission.
“Ruto never intended to go to Kitui, Makueni and Machakos . His plans was to have an aggressive campaign blitz in Mt. Kenya supported by strategically facilitated large crowds so as to scare the president into opening a window for BBI Consultations,” MP Wambugu claimed.
He however said the tactic refused to work hence the decision to go back to the drawing board so that he can now apply plan B. This is after Uhuru and Mr. Raila Odinga led a successful retreat mission in Naivasha town which took a record two days.
The retreat saw both Jubilee and ODM MPS agree to support the BBI document as it is without changes.
DP William Ruto has constantly remained on the streets drumming up supporters for his 2022 ambitions with threats to ‘stop the Reggae’.
He has kept staging mega gatherings in a show of might in President Uhuru Kenyatta’s backyard which he has been claiming to take over whether supported by Uhuru or not.
And in his recent tweet, the DP observed that due to rise of Covid-19 cases in the country, there was an urgent need to suspend all political activities in the country.
His sentiments were viewed by some quarters as having been informed by the resurfacing of ICC case while others thought otherwise.
