Thursday, August 25, 2022 –Mt Kenya tycoons have broken their silence days after their preferred candidate Raila Odinga lost to William Ruto in the just-concluded general election.
Led by foundation Chairman Peter Munga, they have now urged the Mt Kenya residents to reunite after a sharp split that was created during the highly volatile campaign period.
Munga, while speaking during their latest reconciliation forum held in Central Region, urged everyone to start coming together as brothers and sisters so that the once-united region can reclaim its lost glory.
He additionally defended that they had chosen on Raila as opposed to any other candidate due to his Pan-Africanism and nothing else.
He added that Odinga has a better aptitude to unite and develop the country better than any other person and that informed their decision to back him.
“There is no competition, only preference. We felt that Mr. Odinga was a better candidate than his competitors, not that we were pushing for class wars or competing against our people,” he said.
He recounted how Mt Kenya people have always been together despite past elections in which they still fielded several candidates.
“We’ve had several multi-party general elections in which Mt Kenya had several contestants. After the exercise is concluded, we’ve never come out divided since what unites is stronger than politics, and it’s no different in this particular election,” Munga stated.
The business tycoon has now pleaded with everyone from the region to come back to their senses and work as a family going forward.
This foundation forum was at logger heads with Deputy President William Ruto who felt that they were preaching tribalism against his presidential ambition.
