Sunday, February 4, 2024 -Prime Cabinet Minister Musalia Mudavadi has given greenlight to former IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati to bid for the Chief Justice position.
In response to opposition leader’s reports that Kenya Kwanza leadership is plotting to install Chebukati as the next CJ, Mudavadi, speaking in Kakamega County on Sunday February 4, said it is not wrong for the son of the soil to bid for the position.
He added that the leader of opposition, Raila Odinga, was wrong to address the matter by faulting Chebukati of repositioning for the CJ post.
“If he(Chebukati) feels qualified and decides to bid for the post, what is wrong with it? After all, this is a decision to be validated by the Judicial Service Commission not the political class,” he argued.
Furthermore, he stated that the political class will not play any part in who becomes the next CJ.
Mudavadi, therefore, noted that Chebukati was free to get to the position he wanted using both his merit and experience.
Days ago in a Nairobi press briefing, Raila took a sharp swipe at President William Ruto’s recent Statehouse meeting with CJ Martha Koome.
Odinga said, their meeting was ill-advised as it focused on funding the Judiciary and, in reciprocity, Ruto to have Chebukati and Isaac Hassan into the Judicial system.
It is after they join the system that Chebukati will be slowly and secretly elevated to become the CJ before 2027 elections.
In another statement made by Lawyer Ekuro Aukot on Twitter now X-Platform, Chebukati will not succeed taking the position of CJ because he lacks both integrity and understanding of the law.
Aukot seized the opportunity to advise Mr. Odinga not to have sleepless nights over the matter.
