Monday, September 13, 2021 -Western politicians who had attended a church event in Butere on Sunday September 12 were denied a chance to address the congregation.
This is in accordance with Archbishop of Anglican Church of Kenya ACK Jackson Ole Sapit who announced the ban in their presence.
In his address during the consecration of Rev Rose Okeno as the Bishop of Butere Diocese, Sapit directed that no politician was going to be allowed to stand on the pulpit.
“From today onwards, I have banned politicians from speaking inside the Anglican Church. Even if you (the media) put your cameras there, they will not speak,” Sapit declared.
Just after this announcement, Amani National Congress ANC Party leader Musalia Mudavadi, Ford Kenya’s Moses Wetang’ula and their lieutenants started to walk out in protest as the service went on.
The video showing how this took place shows the duo walk out as the service picked on. They could be seen waving to their supporters who were eagerly waiting to hear from them.
Sources also indicated that the Orange Democratic Movement ODM Party boss Raila Odinga, Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu, Kakamega’s Wycliffe Oparanya, COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli and Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa were all present in the church.
This is not the first time this is taking place, sometimes last year Sapit also issued similar directives which, nonetheless, never lasted long.
