Saturday, July 15, 2023 –Over 20 vehicles were involved in Waiyaki Way accident at Eka Tano area in Kiambu County, Friday Night.
Among those who lost their lives was a PCEA Pastor and his wife who died on the spot as 54 other people, including 31 students, were left injured.
Those who escaped death by a whisker were rushed to nearby hospitals for urgent medication and attention.
Sources confirmed that the accident involved multiple cars among them trucks, school bus and several saloon cars.
A source speaking to the media confirmed that the school bus filled with occupants was leaving Kayole to undisclosed destination.
The fatal accident was reportedly caused when one of the drivers was cutting a sudden u-turn along the busy highway.
As victims who survived were being rushed to various facilities for specialized medication, rescue operations were also ongoing to clear the way for other road users.
It was established that the area had turned into a black spot and now residents want the Ministry of Transport led by Kipchumba Murkomen to modify the road so that to reduce accidents.
Just weeks ago, another tragic accident took place in Londiani, Kericho claiming at least 52 lives on the spot.
The accident involved multiple car crash with CS Kipchumba Murkomen proposing to mount cameras in the area. He also issued more directives to PSV owners including need to have mandatory retesting of drivers as well as automated dash-cams.
Currently, PSV operators are drawing their counterproposal on what they think could work best for them ahead of their meeting with Mr. Murkomen with whom they will harmonise their recommendations with his.
