Saturday, August 26, 2023 –Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has apologized for the countrywide power blackout experienced on Friday stretching into Saturday August 26.
Kenyans from various parts of the country were plunged into darkness for almost two days with Kenya Power and Lighting Company KPLC speaking little of it.
The monopolized utility provider would later emerge with a statement on what had happened; attributing the hitch to what it termed as ‘system disturbance’ that led to bulk power cuts in various parts of country.
“We experienced a system disturbance leading to loss of bulk power supply to various parts of the country. We are working in collaboration with teams from all involved sector partners to facilitate a speedy restoration of power supply in shortest time possible.
“We therefore apologise to all our customers for this inconvenience and an update for restoration will be communicated in real-time,” read the KPLC statement seen by Homenews.Co.ke
On Friday August 25 morning, Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Mr. Murkomen would tender an apology for the mishap that happened in a major international airport JKIA Nairobi.
CS Murkomen would promise to follow up the matter so that electricity is reconnected and movements at the port restored back to normalcy.
“I am really sorry for what has happened at JKIA with the blackout. There is no excuse worth reporting and there is no reason why our airport is in darkness. I will be announcing the decision we will make tomorrow 9AM at JKIA after a meeting with the leadership of the airport. Once again, I am sorry,” he wrote.
Interestingly, Energy Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir was yet to speak to the nation on the matter that has cost the country millions of income in lost revenues in the two day blackout that forced many business to close down.
