Muturi Asked to Withdraw From Ruto Pact

Monday, April 11, 2022 –National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi is under immense pressure to drop his relationship with Deputy President William Ruto.

Democratic Party DP officials have distanced themselves from his agreement with Kenya Kwanza camp saying the speaker did not involve them in negotiations contrary to what should be done before entering into coalition pacts.

Deputy Secretary-General, Wambugu Nyamu, led the officials in protesting the agreement and have given Mr. Muturi an ultimatum to withdraw from the pact. They have since filed a petition with the Registrar of Political Parties claiming Muturi made a personal decision to enter into the deal with Ruto.

The officials went ahead to argue in the petition that as a party they had resolved not to join any pre-election deals until after the August 9 elections.

“I have a message to those who signed the illegal coalition with Kenya Kwanza. If you feel as an individual that you want to join the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), Kenya Kwanza, or any other, you are free to resign and join those parties.

“I’m informing our party leader, Justin, chairman and Secretary-General that the party belongs to the members. As the party, we are not joining any coalition in any way, form, or matter,” he stated.

The development is coming after Muturi, on Saturday, April 9, signed an agreement with the Kenya Kwanza coalition, before hitting the campaign trail with Ruto and Mudavadi on Sunday.

Ruto and Mudavadi have lauded the boldness of Mr. Muturi in going against the wishes of the State which has been opposed to anyone who is associating with Ruto.
