Friday, March 22, 2024 –Health Cabinet Secretary CS Susan Nakhumicha has shared details of a meeting she had with stakeholders at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre, today.
On Friday March 22, the stakeholders’ meeting graced by Head of Public Service Felix Koskei saw the interest groups deliberate on how to resolve the emerging and perennial disputes in the health sector.
Making the confirmation shortly after holding a briefing with sections of the mainstream media at the KICC, the health CS said their deliberation was focused on way forward and how to solve the existing medical impasse in her ministry.
“We had a fruitful engagement at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre following a Whole-of-Nation Approach [WONA] that was convened by Head of Public Service Felix Koskei as directed by the Labour and Employment Court to address the perennial labour relation issues in the health sector.
“The consultative forum deliberated on issues raised by the Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists and Dentists Union with a view of ensuring they are wholly addressed and the long-running cycle of perennial disputes that were time and again trying to plague Kenya’s health sector is finally broken,” she further highlighted.
On his part, head of Public Service Mr. Felix Kosgei noted that medical interns will be treated equally like the rest of the stuff since this is a global standard that cannot be overemphasized.
The meeting brought together various parties and stakeholders including Cabinet Secretaries, the Council of Governors, Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU), Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC), Public Service Commission (PSC), The Kenya Federation of Employers; and Central Organisation of Trade Unions(COTU-K).
