Sunday, July 2, 2023 – Nakuru County Government has pledged to foot medical bills for every family affected in the Londiani Junction tragedy that claimed over 51 persons two days ago.
Governor Susan Kihika has called on families within his county who might have been affected by the Londiani crash to reach out to her office.
Speaking during a thanksgiving service in Molo area and which was attended by President William Ruto, the first-time governor said, anyone affected should inform her office to ensure the hospital bills are fully taken care of by the county.
She also promised to help families which lost their loved ones to give them a better send off and any necessary financial support during this difficult period.
Ms Kihika seized the opportunity to sympathize with the Kenyans who were involved in the killer accident.
“I know a lot of our people from Kamara and Molo were caught up in that. For some of those families we said they should be brought to our hospitals and we have been able to use Molo hospital and PGH,” Governor Kihika said.
In Nakuru area, about 12 families were affected by the tragedy that hit headlines following the number of persons who lost lives.
“Nakuru I think we had 12 and if there is any family from Nakuru that has a victim in that accident I would like my office to know so that we can cater for all the expenses,” she added.
It has since been established that the Friday evening accident has so far claimed 52 lives leaving several others hospitalised.
Government through the Ministry of Roads and Transport has also issued a raft of measures to be undertaken at the blackspot including erecting of appropriate road signage and arrest of drunk drivers along the highway.
For instance, Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, while on his visit to the scene a day ago, announced that the National Government will be mounting speed limit cameras on the road.
