Saturday, October 21, 2023 -Outspoken Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has slammed Sports Cabinet Secretary CS Ababu Namwamba for the Kericho Green Stadium tragedy that claimed lives and left scores injured.
In a long statement he shared on X platform on Saturday October 21, Cherargei claimed that whatever happened yesterday at Mashujaa Day venue was caused by ‘incompetent’ Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba and who must be held responsible.
Cherargei, while sending his heartfelt message to the affected families, noted that the stampede that left scores injured was preventable but the Ministry of Sports under Namwamba failed in its mandate,
“My heart goes out to the families and friends who lost their loved ones after stampede at Kericho Green Stadium yesterday Friday.
“The supervising ministry of sports CS Ababu must be held responsible for this unfortunate incident. This is clear pointer of substandard work done by the ministry at the stadium. The incident embarrassed all of us. My apologies to the entire country,” he remarked.
He also urged CS Ababu Namwamba to personally apologise to the nation for what happened at the Mashujaa Day celebrations.
The morning stampede that claimed at least four lives and left scores with major and minor injuries was triggered by a tea vendor whose hot thermo-flask exploded sending hundreds into great panic after they mistook this with an explosive.
President William Ruto also has today Saturday October 21 shared a message of condolences with the affected families.
