Thursday, July 28, 2022 –Nation Media Group management is seeking answers as to why the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC gave a publishing tender to their rival.
In an express demand letter seen by Homenews.co.ke on Wednesday July 27 morning, NMG management had accused the IEBC of going against the tender award spirit which requires such publishing to only take place in widely circulating newspapers and not just any other.
The letter addressed to Chief Executive Officer CEO Marjan Hussein Marjan questioned why the commission had chosen to redirect the tender to a publication with weaker reach.
Nation Media Group General Manager, James Sogoti, wrote to the IEBC asking to know why it had chosen to publish the 140-page party nominations list in a rival paper with very insignificant readership as compared to the Nation paper which remains the most sought after in the country.
This is in reference to the tender award dated July 29, 2021, which Sogoti indicated that the electoral body had deliberately went against their corporate engagement by considering to work with a somewhat low-ranking newspaper.
“The list has been published in the lowest circulating dailies in Kenya. NMG considers this not only an unfair business practice butt also a breach of good corporate governance by IEBC,” the NMG letter read in part.
In the letter, the Kimathi Street-based media house bragged that statistics clearly puts it far above any other newspaper outlet in the country as far as both readership and sales is concerned.
Nation Media therefore demanded a fast substantial explanation as to why it was not given the chance despite having qualified.
