Thursday, October 12, 2023 –Lawyer Ekuru Aukot has blasted newly-appointed Government spokesman Isaac Mwaura for reportedly lying to the country over the ongoing law suit on police deployment in Haiti.
The Thirdway Alliance Party Leader and lawyer, Ekuru Aukot, on Wednesday October 12, exposed out Mwaura for claiming that they had a conversation on the recently issued court orders on Haiti matter.
”Stop the lies. You lied that you spoke to me about the Haiti petition. Why are you people such liars?” Aukot stated.
He reacted moments after Mwaura who was appearing on an a Tv interview said he had contacted and spoken with Aukot – the petitioner – on the matter.
He said, in their discussion, he had sought to understand more on the petition which the lawyer had lodged with the court and how this can be de-suspended so that the Kenyan police can be cleared with the Parliament for deployment in the war-torn Caribbean nation.
”As you may be aware, there is a court order that has been issued because of my good brother Ekuru Aukot whom I spoke to before I came here because I wanted to understand why he went to court and clearly there is something we need to explain to us all as Kenyans” Me. Mwaura said.
Mwaura also added that, before deployment is effected, there will be a Parliamentary verdict first just as Interior Cabinet Secretary CS Kithure Kindiki had assured.
Mwaura said everything will be done in good faith and in accordance with the United Nations Security Council regulations to make sure the Kenyan men in uniform remain safe when conducting their duty away.
”Deployment is a process because there has to be a ratification to the request,” Mwaura said.
The new spokesman explained further that the government will also make sure that all those who are going to Haiti are well-trained and prepared to handle the escalating situation; saying there is no reason to worry about.
But in his petition, Lawyer Ekuru Aukot argued that the matter is of intense gravity and cannot be decided unilaterally by the head of State or the ministry before proper consultation across arms of government is concluded. The matter has since been temporarily halted at the High Court and parties served to appear for a final verdict.
”That a conservatory order is hereby issued restraining the respondents from deploying police officers to Haiti or any other country until October 24, 2023,” Justice Mwita ordered.
The High Court on October 9, issued the conservatory orders blocking the government from deploying the 1000 police officers to Haiti or any other country until the case is heard and determined on October 24.
This happening days after the United Nations UN Security Council cleared Kenya for the peace-keeping mission.
