Thursday, September 2, 2021 -Newly appointed Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC officials have been sworn into office.
Juliana Whonge Cherera, Francis Mathenge Wanderi, Irene Cherop Masit and Justus Abonyo Nyangaya who were recently appointed by the president took oath today Thursday September 2 ; a function which was presided over by Chief Justice Martha Koome.
The quartet was successful in their interviews that saw over 36 candidates face the selecting panel.
They took their oath at a ceremony organized at the Supreme Court building and will be serving as commissioners for six year period.
They have replaced positions left by Roselyne Akombe, Margret Mwachanya, Paul Kurgat and former Vice Chair Consolata Maina.
After thier oath today, the electoral body IEBC is now fully constituted to carry out any electoral mandate.
Attempts to stop the swearing in process were thwarted at the High Court which argued that the country is headed in an electioneering period and the team must be in office as early as now.
