New IG Breaks Silence on his ‘Marriage’ With CJ Martha Koome

Friday, November 11, 2022 –Newly sworn-in Inspector General of Police, Japhet Koome, has refuted social media claims that he is related to Chief Justice Martha Koome.

Addressing the matter for the first time after taking oath of office today Friday November 11 in an event held in Nairobi, the IG while setting the record straight, said nothing can be further from the truth.

“I have seen some people claiming that I am related to Chief Justice Martha Koome.

“Some have said that Martha is my wife. Nothing can be further from the truth,” IG Koome wondered.

He went blunt stating that neither is he related in anyway to the CJ nor is he her husband as it has been peddled out there.

“I can confess here that I do admire Madam Koome because she is a great leader who had served this country diligently,” the IG added.

He then took the opportunity to promise to work with the judiciary in upholding law and order as enshrined in the Constitution.

Japhet Koome took over from Hillary Mityambai who was shown the door immediately the new president was sworn into office.

President William Ruto had, before getting sworn into office, described Mutyambai as a very weak and incompetent officer.
