Thursday, May 5, 2022 –A fresh opinion poll released by a popular pollster in the country indicates that Deputy President William Ruto’s popularity continues to sink as August 9 polls nears.
Conducted by Trends and Insights for Africa TIFA and made public on Thursday May 5, Ruto’s popularity fortunes appeared to be dwindling by day especially in the Coastal Region where numbers have reduced from 34 percent to 26 percent between February and April this year.
The survey also showed that his popularity which recently was on a steady rise was coming down in areas Nyanza and Northern Regions.
“Support for DP Ruto again remains statistically unchanged since TIFA’s last survey held in February, though this near-static overall figure obscures some changes in several zones,” partly read of the survey from TIFA.
He, however, still managed to hold grip to his home turf of Central Rift with 70 percent being a rise by 9 percent as compared to the previous findings where he had 61 percent.
Miles away in Mt. Kenya, Ruto also had a jump by 4 percent same to Lower Eastern areas where he still enjoys support than Mr. Odinga.
The choice of who will be their running mate will or may tilt the numbers up or down. The surveyor noted in its latest findings.
So far Raila Odinga who is his fierce rival is gaining popularity by day and new numbers now show that he has gained a 5 percent rise since February.
Raila has gained significantly in Regions Lower Eastern, Nyanza, Coastal, Northern and Western. Sadly, he is not doing well in Central Region according to the polls.
When it comes to general popularity across the country, DP Ruto is still a threat with 39 percent against Odinga’s 32 percent.
This research was carried out between April 22 and April 26 this year.
