Thursday, April 6, 2023 –Former Kitui County Governor Charity Ngilu has revealed the reason she is not with Raila Odinga in their ongoing anti-Ruto protests in the city.
Ms Ngilu, who was speaking yesterday Wednesday April 5 during the burial of Pius Musembi, who until his death in a road accident a week ago, was a prominent Machakos businessman, indicated that she had been in many protests before and that it was time for the upcoming politicians to take it from where she has left.
She was responding to voices which have been seeking answers on her whereabouts since their party leader lost in the August 9 elections.
“Honorable Musyoka, I know the work you are doing. Those who are asking about my whereabouts started demonstrating just the other day while I have inhaled teargas since 1992 during the Moi era,” she said in reference to Senator Enoch Wambua’s recent outburst that she was warming up towards William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza government.
It was the first time the veteran politician had appeared in public since last year’s General Election.
Her deafening low profile had fueled speculations with Senator Wambua from Kitui claiming she had become an ally of President Ruto by assisting him to mobilize locals anytime Ruto visits their region.
Ms Ngilu, however, used the chance to hit at William Ruto whom she described as an underperforming State officer despite promising to make drastic changes after swearing in.
“We had a very good agenda for Azimio. We were clear on our manifesto. The others also said as soon as they are sworn into office the cost of a 2-kilogram packet of maize flour will drop to Sh 70. They also promised to lower the cost of cooking oil. But none of this has happened,” Ngilu complained.
She hinted at joining Kalonzo Musyoka in his quest to unite the Kamba Region.
