Tuesday, February 28, 2023 –Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has cautioned businessmen from Kikuyu community against expecting any special treatment from the current regime.
Commenting on the ongoing city protests that saw hundreds of traders take to the streets to pile pressure on government to shut down the China Square Mall, Prof Ngunyi has said that Mt. the Kenya businessmen should put up with new leadership arrangement where their own is nolonger in power.
He alluded that, by this situation, everyone from their region should give room to other communities and cultures to also thrive freely in the city.
“Dear Kikuyus. You were PROTECTED by three Presidents since INDEPENDENCE. You DO NOT Own Kenya. Let other people, including the SOMALIANS and CHINA People enjoy the Fruit of our independence. Nyamakima protection is OVER!!” he tweeted on Tuesday February 28.
Today Tuesday February 28 afternoon, both small and medium traders around the mall took to the streets in protest of the Chinese shop that has been selling its goods cheaply giving them an unmatched competition.
According to a source familiar with company registrations details, Fujian is a Kenyan-registered company, and the company, rather than the individual, is regarded as the director of China Square. The two registered the company in Kenya on July 25, 2022.
China Square Limited, on the other hand, was registered almost a month later, on August 19, 2022.
Despite speculation, this casts doubt on the company’s ties to a Kenyan.
