Monday, July 18, 2022 –Wafula Chebukati-led Electoral commission IEBC has hammered the last nail on Mike Sonko’s political ambitions.
On Monday July 18, the IEBC revoked Sonko’s clearance to vie for the gubernatorial seat saying the decision follows the Supreme Court verdict delivered a few days ago.
“In adherence to the Supreme Court judgment you are therefore disqualified from holding any public office and thus disqualified from contesting and being elected as the governor of Mombasa or any other county. Your candidature is invalidated and your certificate revoked,” read the letter.
The Apex court made the ruling last Friday upholding the Court of Appeal ruling on the validity of the embattled former Nairobi boss who was impeached from office due to financial irregularities.
IEBC is making this decision even as Sonko vowed to soldier on with the fight through the East Africa Court of Justice where he went today to file the case seeking to overturn the decision by the Supreme Court.
“It’s not over until it’s over. There’s nothing like giving up in life. After online filing of my review challenging the Supreme Court judgment at the Supreme Court and filing of our case at the East African Court of Justice last night,” he updated his walls.
The flashy politician is seeking to participate in the Mombasa race under the Wiper Democratic Party of Kalonzo Musyoka.
