Wednesday, September 7, 2022 –President Uhuru Kenyatta has defended his move to support Raila Odinga in the last campaigns saying the greatest losers in the just-concluded election are the Kenyans.
Speaking in their Azimio la Umoja Parliamentary Group meeting held at Maasai Mara Lodge on Wednesday September 7, Mr. Kenyatta said, neither him nor Raila have lost the election.
He affirmed that he will remain with Raila whatever the situation is because that is what he wanted for the country and, should anything go wrong, later, Kenyans have themselves to blame.
“You denied yourself an opportunity to bring the country together. You haven’t denied Raila ,” President Uhuru said.
He added that, nonetheless, he will be handing over the instruments of power to the next administration on September 13.
“I will hand over power smiling because it’s my Constitutional duty but my leader is Baba, Raila Odinga. Politics is not a matter to keep in your pockets,” he stated.
Uhuru seized the opportunity to endorse Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka for the Senate speaker position saying the former vice president would play that role of checking Ruto better than anyone else.
“Stephen Kalonzo would have been the best chief minister. I believe he would also have been a good representative of our agenda in Senate,” the Azimio Council Chairman stated.
Uhuru convened a meeting with all Azimo-elected Members of Parliament MPs and senators so that to deliberate on how the coalition party would strategize to beat Kenya Kwanza in the forthcoming House elections.
