Wednesday, June 9, 2021 -Governor Okoth Obado has spoken on his recent meeting with Deputy President William Ruto.
Speaking over the ongoing debate about his association with the second in command, Governor Obado said his Sunday meeting with David Ruto(brother to DP Ruto) had nothing to do with politics and urged the public not to read too much into it.
He added that if he wanted to create something with Ruto, he would instead seek his direct audience rather than through someone else.
“It’s true we met and as politicians, we discussed a number of issues whose details will come to light in due course.
“Let us not create a mountain out of the visit. It was not political and should be treated as such. If I’ve anything political, I’d discuss it with the Deputy President himself. Let people not read too much into such meetings,” the governor said.
On Sunday, Mr. David Ruto reportedly hosted Obado at his Kileleshwa residence in Nairobi where the two reportedly talked about possibilities of uniting ahead of 2022 contest.
Though not yet official, reports flying around indicate that Obado’s PDP Party and Ruto’s UDA Party could be preparing to merge and field candidates around the country with the main target being in Nyanza Region where Raila Odinga boast of strong support.
According to political analysts, Obado’s entrance into Nyaza politics may see one or two candidates win through his party hence starting to dilute Odinga’s strength and maybe help succeed Odinga in the region.
