Sunday, March 26, 2023 –Siaya County Senator Oburu Odinga has, for the first time, commented on the ongoing Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya protests spearheaded by the opposition boss, Raila Odinga.
Speaking in Siaya County on Saturday March 25, Dr. Oburu told President Ruto to focus on running the country and avoid direct confrontations with his younger brother, Raila Odinga.
Raila’s elder brother said the Azimio leader is doing what he should be doing with his supporters; what those who are in power should find a way of engaging him amicably instead of appearing like they are also turning this into a personal duel.
“I am quite disturbed as the head of the Odinga family that president Ruto who holds the instruments of power and force heading the Armed Forces of Kenya can threaten Raila to a personal duel as if Raila is raising personal issues.
“Whether legally or illegally, Ruto must know he is the president of Kenya and commander-in-chief.
“What is wrong when Raila, with the rest of the country, are demonstrating in accordance with the Constitution which he(Raila) fought for. Why then threaten him?” Oburu posed.
The Siaya lawmaker also used the chance to inform President Ruto to act as the man in control of power instead of running berserk and threatening to unleash terror on the opposition team using the police.
Raila and Ruto, while in separate gatherings around Nyanza Region on Saturday March 25, exchanged bitterly over the state of the country.
Ruto challenged Raila to give him time to run the country and, further, urged him to support his 2027 presidential bid as a sign of reciprocity.
Additionally, and what angered Mr. Odinga, the president told the Nyanza residents that it is time they free themselves from the chains of poverty brought around by the opposition leader.
On the other hand, Raila responded with a warning to Ruto whom he told off for attempting to lecture him on matters leadership.
