Monday, August 21, 2023 –Raila Odinga is grooming Ugunja Member of Parliament Opiyo Wandayi to take over the Luo Kingship from him.
Raila Odinga’s elder brother, Oburu Odinga, who is also senator Siaya County, has said, only MP Wandayi can get along with Raila and that he is fit to step in Odinga’s shoes once the opposition leader officially calls it quit.
Amid succession politics around Luo Nyanza, Dr. Oburu has stirred the hornet nest by making the sensational statement on the contentious political matter.
“Wandayi has proved to be a political master who knows the body language of Raila very well and always acts in his interests with precision and awe.
“There is nowhere Luos sat down and endorsed Raila as their political kingpin. Raila is self-made politically,’’ Oburu added.
The senator, therefore, noted that, Wandayi’s high-level grasp of Raila’s tactics will make him a perfect replacement as Luo Nyanza kingpin.
“That is how he became a kingpin. Nobody elected or appointed him as the community leader. Raila emerged as a mushroom plant,’’ claimed Oburu.
Senator Oburu’s remarks coming as efforts to replace Raila intensified since last year’s general election.
Possibly touted as successors for Raila include former Cabinet Minister Dalmas Otieno, Siaya Governor James Orengo, former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero and ex-Migori governor Okoth Obado.
Youthful Embakasi East lawmaker Babu Owino and self-styled Lawyer Miguna Miguna have also been at constant loggerheads with each other over the same position.
Owino, however, recently said on the media that he cannot start discussing his boss’ succession plans when he(Raila) is still active.
