Wednesday, September 6, 2023 –Orange Democratic Movement ODM Party has expelled from the party a section of lawmakers over alleged gross misconduct.
Making the announcement today Wednesday September 6, the Orange Party National Executive Committee NEC, listed Elisha Odhiambo (Gem), Sen. Tom Ojienda (Kisumu), Hon. Gideon Ochanda (Bondo), Hon. Felix Odiwuor (Lang’ata) and Hon. Caroli Omondi (Suba South) as party members who defied party position for their own interests elsewhere.
“The NEC has resolved to expelled from the party Hon. Elisha Odhiambo (Gem), Sen. Tom Ojienda (Kisumu), Hon. Gideon Ochanda (Bondo), Hon. Felix Odiwuor (Lang’ata) and Hon. Caroli Omondi (Suba South) for defying party position and gross misconduct,” the circular read in part.
In the same notice seen by Homenews.Co.ke, the Raila Odinga-led Party announced that Nominated MCAs in Kisumu County Assembly Hon. Caroline Opar, Hon. Kennedy Ajwang’, Hon. Peter Obaso and Hon. Regina Kizito will have their nominations revoked, immediately.
Nonetheless, ODM leadership spared Hon. Paul Abuor and Hon. Mark Nyamita who appeared in person before the Disciplinary Committee and explained reasons for their actions.
The duo was only reprimanded and fined a sum of sh. 1M each to be paid to the party within the next sixty days.
Party grassroots elections will be held early next year on dates to be determined by the National Executive Committee NEC.
The expelled MPs’ woes piled up when they started coalescing around President William Ruto’s government after the August elections that saw Odinga defeated.
Most would argue that they decided to work with the government of the day so that to realise quick development.
In his counter, their leader, Raila Odinga, argued that one does not need to be in government to develop his or her region.
Odinga explained that it is the law that gives everyone development funds and no one can deny another the money.
MP Jalang’o recently defended his position to work with the president saying, the move did not mean he had decamped to UDA Party.
He, however, promised to go upto the Supreme Court to defend his decision.
