Thursday, September 30, 2021 -Orange Democratic Movement ODM Party has fired a warning at their life member Jimmy Wanjigi who is jostling to replace Raila Odinga as the party’s 2022 flag-bearer.

In a meeting chaired by party leader Odinga on Wednesday September 29, it was resolved that the party will not allow anyone to break their constitution in the name of looking for votes. Odinga warned Wanjigi against opening offices around the country without his express consent saying it is against the spirit of the party.

The party officials also resolved that any member who will be found violating party rules will be punished and could even be expelled. They therefore urged anybody with an intention to open grassroots offices to first seek permission from the main office before going ahead.

This could be a big blow to Wanjigi who wants to be the party’s boss through looming primaries where he will be facing off with Mr. Odinga and maybe Governors Joho and Oparanya who have also expressed their interest in the position.

“We wish to remind all members that whenever there is need to open any party office, the same must be done in consultation with the national office, failure to which such offices will not be recognized.

“Such brazen violation of the party’s directive will attract disciplinary action to those involved,” the statement signed by ODM Secretary-General, Edwin Sifuna read.

This meeting is coming weeks after businessman-turned-politician Wanjigi attacked ODM Party leadership saying it is not a personal property and members should be allowed to have freedom to do politics.

Wanjigi, just like Odinga, is already out there looking for votes from Kenyans as he plans to wrestle ODM Party from Mr. Odinga. He is riding on his slogan – Fagia Wote.
