Wednesday, July 31, 2024 ––The new Minority leader in the National Assembly has been unveiled by ODM Party top brass.
The Orange Democratic Movement ODM Party under the stewardship of Rt Hon. Raila Odinga, announced Suna East MP Junet Mohamed as the minority leader in the National Assembly.
MP Junet, therefore, immediately replacing Opiyo Wandayi who has since been moved to the Energy and Petroleum Ministry in the new-look government on National Unity.
Suba North lawmaker Millie Odhiambo has been mandated with the Minority Whip position; taking over from Junet.
On the same note, Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi was appointed by Odinga to the position of the Public Accounts Committee in the National Assembly.
This lucrative position was previously held by Treasury CS Nominee John Mbadi who Ruto, recently, elevated to the Treasury docket as the new Cabinet Secretary pending the vetting process.
The ODM Party, also seized the opportunity today, to announce official resignation of the four senior party officials who were recently nominated to various ministries in government.
“The party has released the four CS nominees in good faith to go and serve the nation. However this doesn’t mean that ODM has joined the Kenya Kwanza government, NO, we firmly remain in Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition,” a statement from ODM read in full.
Defending these nominations, the party leadership said it had not entered into any kind of agreement with the United Democratic Alliance UDA Party or Kenya Kwanza coalition.
According to Mr. Odinga, the joining of his team in the government of William Ruto was informed by the calls from the president to constitute a government of national unity expanded to reflect both the opposition and the government side.
Mr. Odinga added that this was purely done by the president to tap into the expertise of his team mates.
