Wednesday, December 14, 2022 –A heavy traffic snarl up was witnessed along a busy city highway after an oil tanker was involved in an accident.
Those who witnessed the incident lamented that police and other state rescuers were slow in acting hence risking hundreds of lives on the ever-busy highway.
The morning accident that was confirmed by the Kenya National Highways Authority KeNHA took place along Nairobi-Thika-Nyeri Road near Thika Town at the popular Blue Post Hotel.
Police officers would finally arrive at the scene, condoned it before they started to rescue victims and other valuables.
By the time of reporting this, actual number of casualties had not been made public by the authorities.
“The accident has occasioned that stretch of the road to be completely blocked as the police conduct rescue operations,” a report from KeNHA read.
In the accident, the oil tanker seemingly collided with a lorry hence pushing it on the edge of the highway.
The scene showed oil spillage on the road and also guard rails had been badly damaged by the trucks.
As this was happening, miles away in Mai Mahiu along Nairobi-Naivasha highway, two trucks burst into flames after a deadly collision.
Police had to again swing into action to put off the fires and restore normalcy on the road.
