Olunga to miss Comoros clash as Mulee displays hope

Kenya’s top striker Michael Olunga will not be part of the squad that will be facing Comoros on Wednesday November 11.

Harambee Stars National Coach Jacob Ghost Mulee who made a return to the pitch two weeks ago noted that they will have carry on with the clash without key players like Michael Olunga who is currently in an isolation facility for Covid-19.

“Olunga is not here, we knew that at least a week before. I think we have other strikers who can take the task. He is a top striker who has done very well for his club but we have to accept the reality that he is not available.

“We have a mission ahead. We knew about this fixture before, it’s just that we know the situation about Covid where everything has changed. It is the new normal we have to live with but looking at what we had in training it doesn’t look that bad,” said Mulee.

Olunaga’s Japanese club Kashiwa Reysol reported several positive cases of Covid-19 forcing the club to order a temporary shutdown for the players to rest in isolation cubes.

Coach Mulee has also said that he had little time to asses foreign players that jetted into the camp late but indicated that he was ready for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Arnold Origi and Victor Wanyama joined the team today Tuesday.
