Tuesday, July 11, 2023 –Outspoken Busia County Senator Okiya Omtatah now claims that some individuals from government have been attempting to buy him so that he can drop his case on the Finance Act.
Addressing this matter on Tuesday July 11 noon, Omtatah explained that his case at the High Court had fetched too much heat with influential individuals in government trying to silence him through multimillion bribes.
He claimed that the recent attempt to lure him from the case saw some individuals call him to pick a whopping sh 200 million.
“We must audit our debts and pay those that benefitted us. Those that have not benefited Kenyans should be paid by those who benefited from it.”
“My efforts to continue fighting and standing for what I believe is right is not going to be deterred.”
The senator’s resolve to stay put on his course to make sure the Finance Act fails the test was bolstered even more when, on Monday, the High Court declined to lift orders staying the implementation of the Act.
The court decision meant the Finance Act 2023, which was assented to by the President on June 26 remains an impotent law that should not be put into practice.
The government side argued to the courts that the country was losing millions in taxes following the suspension of the document.
Sections in government led by Senator Samson Cherargei warned the courts that they also risk being sidelined in the next financial year after rejecting the Act.
