Opposition leader Raila Odinga is a man no one has ever fit into his shoes. His short absence is always felt around the country, far and wide.
Attempts by a section of his fellow opposition figures to fit into his shoes always hits a wall. For instance, Mr. Kalonzo Musyoka has tried this but he has, instead, found himself gasping for oxygen. And not just Kalonzo but many more politicians have chest thumbed taking over the opposition role but they fade out just within days.
Raila Odinga has performed remarkably well on this. In fact, when Ruto won power, almost everyone who had opposed him coiled their tails between their legs. They knew the rough era of dictatorship, abductions and murder was here with us. No one wanted to raise a finger. But guess what? Only Raila Odinga decided to stage countrywide protests against the regime. This is something no one wanted to even imagine of. He did and these demonstration ran into months.
When the rest of the country saw that it is still possible to oppose Ruto, they became emboldened and could now speak on media, and criticise the State on social platforms. Gen Zs also took over from their to complete the race upto the finish line.
That done and said, back to ODM politics, Raila is not your fool next door. I am more than sure that he has already devised ways of checking on Ruto excesses. Looking at the manner in which his own party secretary general Edwin Sifuna is confidently speaking loud against William Ruto, you will tell how Mr. Odinga is determined to be in government using the likes of John Mbadi and Wandayi but also wants to keep his opposition intact through the likes of bold and vocal Sifuna. It’s a political tactic that will keep Ruto sweating and wondering as to whether he will be fully supported by ODM or not.
In a nutshell, Raila knows how to hold all presidents by their balls. And it is a very enjoyable wait and see game.
