Tuesday, July 11, 2023 –Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka has clarified that he is still in Azimio opposition coalition despite having attended UDA Party function in Kisii County.
Making this confirmation on Citizen Tv today Tuesday July 11, the long-serving Kisii County politician stated categorically that he is still in Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition that is led by Raila Odinga.
“We are in opposition, you are in government, you cannot blame any incompetence on Raila Odinga,” he stated.
This is as per the clip recorded on Citizen Tv today Tuesday July 11 where he was attending to questions from Sammy Gituku – the host.
Onyonka was facing off with Kenya Kwanza elected Woman Representative Jane Kagiri who was defending government of President William Ruto.
Jane Kagiri had been challenged to explain how this new government was going to handle the fast-emerging corruption in it.
“We have had the health scandal but he(Ruto) handled it well,” she responded.
Onyonka had, during the heated debate, accused the current regime of presiding over mega scandals just eight months into power.
“Since President Ruto came into power, how many scandals have we had? We have had KEMSA, fuel and fertilizers… look at how your government is gobbling billions of shillings with helicopters and motorcades and when we raise up these issues, you bring Raila and yet he is not in government, can you people govern?” he posed.
The senator’s sentiments comes barely a week after he appeared to have defected to the ruling party in a function held by United Democratic Alliance UDA Party Secretary General Cleophas Malala.
Malala, while gracing Kisii function, appeared to receive both Senator Onyonka of Orange Democratic Movement ODM Party together with Nyaribari Masaba MP Daniel Manduku also of ODM.
The two were claimed to have joined UDA Party during a grassroots recruitment meeting presided over by UDA Party leadership on Monday July 3.
