Wednesday, August 23, 2023 –Ex-Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya together with his two wives were arrested on Wednesday August afternoon over claims of abuse of office.
A source reported that the former Kakamega county boss and his wife Priscilla were arrested on Wednesday August 23 by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations DCI.
Furthermore, Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission EACC officials were also present during this arrest that targeted his two homes – Nairobi and Kakamega.
Oparanya and wife Priscilla are linked to acts of corruption and abuse of office during their tenure in Kakamega County.
The officers raided the couple’s homes in Lang’ata, Nairobi and Emabole Village, Butere where they seized several documents and electronic devices.
Following the arrest, the couple was driven to the EACC offices at Integrity Centre for questioning.
Oparanya was Kakamega Governor for a period of two terms and it was during his tenure that the incomplete Bukhungu Stadium as well as the multimillion Referral hospital were started.
The two mega projects are still struggling to be completed a year since the new administration of Fernandes Barasa and deputy Ayub Savula took charge.
