Tuesday, May 30, 2023 – Embattled United Democratic Alliance UDA Party Vice Chairman Seth Panyako now claims Cleophas Malala conspired with President William Ruto to undermine him in the party.
Addressing just days after he announced his departure from the ruling party, Seth noted that he was asked to leave UDA Party leadership position by President William Ruto who called him on phone.
He further claimed that the president called him a day before he announced his resignation asking him(Panyako) to leave the party because he was not reading on the same scrip with the rest.
“President Ruto made a call to me at around 7:20PM on Friday and questioned why I was fighting the Finance Bill 2023. I told him I have a constituency of workers who I represent and I can’t go against them,” Panyako told Nation Tv on Tuesday May 30.
He went on to claim that, it was at that point, that Ruto categorically told him that the likes of Cleophas Malala were not happy with his conduct on the ground.
And when the Kenyan Union of Nurses KNUN Secretary General asked him what next, President Ruto told him to quit party position.
He added that if UDA believed in democracy, it would have summoned him to face their party disciplinary committee and not to be called by the owner of the party.
Mr. Panyako added that, despite leaving the party on that Saturday, he was still the legal Vice Chairman of the ruling party as per the records at the registrar’s office.
He took issue with party leaders who use their power to remove members from their parties anytime they differ on matters.
Asked if he left UDA Party because of not having secured a role in Kenya Kwanza government, the vocal unionist clarified that his missing to be named in the Cabinet was a nonissue because he has a lot on his plate as the nurses boss in the country.
Mr. Panyako, who unsuccessfully vied for Malava Constituency MP position in the last general election on UDA Party ticket, announced his departure from the party on Saturday May 27, during the burial service of Maendeleo Democratic Party leader Amisi Omuganda which took place in Navakholo area.
“When we were seeking the presidency just a few months ago, we rode on the promise of making life affordable for the masses whom we baptised ‘hustlers’ but everything has changed and the party is turning life unbearable for the said ‘hustlers’.
“This is the reason I choose to step aside to be on the right side of history, to fight and speak for the liberation of the suffering masses,” he said to mourners.
The late Amisi Omuganda is elder brother to Higher Education PS Beatrice Inyangala.
