Thursday, September 7, 2023 –Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris risk expulsion days after ODM Party sent packing scores of rebels.

The opposition party’s National Executive Committee NEC, on Wednesday September 6, fined Pessaris a whopping sh 250,000 for voting ‘yes’ on the controversial Finance Bill that President Ruto pushed and finally signed into an Act.

Ms Passaris was among the 28 party MPs who supported the 2023 Bill despite pressure from party leader Raila Odinga to reject it.

“What I want to say is that we can’t work without money. Our country has got a long journey. We don’t want austerity measures to be brought by lenders. ]

“We have to stand so that as the other MPs from both sides demand CDF, NGAAF and ask for roads or hospitals, that requires money.” Citizen Digital quoted the Woman Rep on June 15.

Her party now wants her punished for the move she took to support a course that her party leader was against.

The second term politician is required to tender a written apology explaining the circumstances under which and, perhaps, admit that she was wrong on that.

These resolutions, according to the committee, was arrived at in a meeting that was chaired by party leader, Raila Odinga.

In the report shared with the media, the disciplinary committee was taking action, as the party constitution stipulates, to put to order errand members.

Those who were expelled from the party were MPs Elisha Odhiambo (Gem), Caroli Omondi (Suba South), Gideon Ochanda (Bondo), Felix Odiwuor alias Jalang’o (Lang’ata) and Kisumu Senator Tom Ojienda.

Additionally, Mark Ogolla Nyamita (Uriri) and Paul Abuor (Rongo), were also accused of defying the party, and were asked to pay a fine of sh 1 million each within a sixty days timeframe.

The duo must also offer a written apology to the party for their mistake or risk a similar expulsion.
