Pauline Njoroge: This is why We are Back With Protests

Chris Akali

Wednesday, June 28, 2023 –Uhuru Kenyatta’s media strategist Pauline Njoroge has explained why Azimio la Umoja wants to pile pressure on the government over the passage of the Finance Bill 2023.

Taking to her online platforms on Wednesday June 28 morning, the renowned social media champion explained why she was not willing to participate in the ongoing Azimio protests this early.

Azimio supporters on the streets

She detailed that, initially, she wanted the protests to pick up after Kenyans feel the pain of the Bill recently passed in the Parliament.

“Yesterday in a certain meeting I asked, “Why does Raila want us to start the demos this early? Shouldn’t he wait kidogo watu waumie so that they can fully understand what we are talking about.

“There are people who need to learn a hard lesson and if we fight this early, they will never learn. Why can’t we wait for the fuel prices to go up, salary deductions to happen even on payslips of hustlers, electricity cost to rise even higher, unga to sell above 250 and sugar to hit 600 bob etc?” she recounted her conversation with a top leader in Azimio.

She then got a contrary response from the top leader who argued that waiting for the Bill to be implemented will be too late to stop it.

“We shall have failed as opposition if we wait for people to suffer, for us to start mass action. They had their way in Parliament since Ruto managed to intimidate and buy most of the MPs. But we will have our say in the streets.

“This is the chance we have to fight for Kenyans before that Finance Act is implemented, and we shall not relent. Are you in or not?!” he was answered.

This response alone, according to the blogger, was persuasive enough to make her join the bandwagon of protests which will be announced on July 7.

Azimio politicians led by Raila Odinga recently

Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya leaders, yesterday Tuesday June 27, at Kamukunji Grounds vowed to make sure that plans to put in effect the Finance Bill are stopped this early.

The opposition led by Raila Odinga and Martha Karua prepared their charges for another round of countrywide demonstrations.

Called upon for Bipartisan talks by Kenya Kwanza team, Odinga said he is nolonger interested in dialogue over anything with a regime that is not keen to listen to every Kenyan.

This is after Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale warned the opposition that failure to resume talks will give way for the continuation of selecting the new IEBC Commissioners.
